Let's Talk Closet Purge, Resale + Donation

organized closet by space camp in Los Angeles

A huge part of what we do is helping clients purge their closets. More often than not, there are piles of clothes that no longer serve the client but are in amazing condition, some with the tags still on and still worth money. Naturally the next questions are: “What do I do with them?” and “Where will I get the most bang for my buck?” This is where our Space Camp team member’s fashion knowledge comes in handy.

Once we’ve walked you through the steps of deciding what you’d like to keep in your closet and what you’re ready to part with, we’ll begin the sorting process. We’ll typically sort your items into 4 categories: designer, on-trend brandname, vintage and donation.

Some examples of these categories are:

  • Designer: Loewe, Chloé, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, The Row, Fendi, Dior, Miu Miu, Hermès

  • On-Trend Brandname: Madewell, Alo, JCrew, Free People, Aritzia, Zara, Mango, Nike, Buck Mason, COS, Everlane, Banana Republic, Mate the Label

  • Vintage: Technically anything older than 20 years is considered vintage

  • Donation: Items that are still in wearable condition but don’t fall in the above categories (undergarments + socks do not fall in this category + should be disposed of)

Luckily, Los Angeles has several avenues for reselling used clothes. But over the years, we’ve discovered that they’re not all created equal. We’ve found our favorites and each one serves a slightly different purpose. So, when we’re sorting the clothes that you’ve decided to get rid of, we can delineate which ones could go where. This way you can rest assured that you’re taking your items to a reputable business and make some money back on your original purchase. With that being said, there’s no hard and fast rule or standard in the clothing resell world so keep in mind that you have to remain flexible.
