The Color Coordinated Closet

Are you ready to take the leap and color-coordinate your closet?  Here’s what you need to know!

Make sure you sort your clothing into categories before you color-coordinate.  You won’t want a jumble of sweaters, jackets, blouses and tanks all hanging in a mishmash in your closet (even if they are in color order!), so take the time to separate categories before you create that rainbow.

We all know to follow the ROYGBIV order, but where do black, white and grey go?  This is totally up to you! I usually put them at one end of the spectrum or the other, but no matter what you decide to do, stay consistent throughout the closet.  So if you put your black, grey, and white sweaters before the colors, continue this pattern with blouses, skirts, pants and dresses too.

Invest in matching hangers.  You’ll get a much better POP in your rainbow colored closet when your hangers all look uniform.  If you have room for a chunkier hanger, I love these wooden beauties. If you need a space-saving option, I love these rubberized hangers from The Container Store.

And last but not least, make sure you declutter before you put everything back in ROYGBIV order! The goal is to like every piece of clothing you own (and know it fits you). There’s no point in having a beautiful closet if you don’t find joy in wearing the clothing inside.
