Meet our new Space Camp HQ, The Space West Adams! We’re so excited to finally be able to share this new creative space with you. We want it to be a place where our community in LA can take crafting classes, host photo shoots, have team offsite meetings, and so much more! Read on to see how and why we created this space…

A couple of months ago I had a flashback to a memory from when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was with my family in a small town in the mountains in Georgia. We’d spent the day exploring and walking around, and at some point we’d made our way into a coffee shop for a snack. I don’t remember the food we ate but I remember the space like it was yesterday: there were big cozy couches and coffee tables and plush rugs and art covering every wall. There were notebooks and colored pencils scattered around for people to draw if they felt like it.  Beyond all these details, what I remember the most was the feeling I had when I walked in. The creative energy was alive and strong and as a kid who had a hard time feeling like she belonged anywhere, I’d found my place.

For years after that trip I would imagine that coffee shop and hang out there in my head. It never ceased to make me feel cozy and calm.

Flash forward 20+ years…it’s 2021 and I have an opportunity to visit a large building in West Adams that will be up for rent in a year. It’s cluttered with furniture and the windows are boarded up and it’s painted a color I’d refer to as, “not my favorite shade of blue.” And it’s perfect. The feeling from the coffee shop is there again, an opportunity to create a space that makes people feel like I did way back then.

In August 2022 we move into our really big, blank white box. I won’t say we had a concrete plan of what The Space would look like or become on day one, but we knew that it would be a place for our team to work together, and eventually we wanted to open it up to the community.

We figured it out piece by piece over the next few months, and it was so incredibly fun to work out the puzzle. It was a true collaboration of our team - we ordered and painted the shelving together, we picked out the Spoonflower fabric and wallpaper together, we designed the art and the tables and the mural and the rugs. We styled the shelves and organized (and reorganized) the closets and then, finally, it was complete! (Watch the video below to see a whole lotta time lapse videos of the process, including hours of us hand painting a mural and making giant pegboard cross stitch pieces!)

In December 2022 we had a launch party that was so fun. It was amazing to see The Space full of our friends and families and to see how excited everyone was about the little details.

And now, here we are in January 2023. We’re just starting to rent the space out for photo shoots, meetings, and events, so if you’re interested reach out to us on our site! We’re excited to see you there!
