Everything You Want To Know About Hiring Space Camp

If you’re a Space Camp newbie, this is for you! New clients often ask me what the process of working with us is like, so I thought it could be helpful to walk you through the process from beginning to end.

Intro Call

To start, reach out! If you fill out this form here, we’ll get back with you within one business day to set up a call with us. (If you need your office organized, fill out this form instead!) During the call you’ll either talk to me (Julianna, the owner) or one of our senior staff members for 5-10 minutes. This allows us to get more information about you, your project, and to answer any questions you might have.

The way we organize is very customized, so we like to ask a lot of questions. The solutions we create are centered around solving specific problems you’re experiencing in your home or workspace. It's helpful for us to have this time to get to know you and your organizing needs. At the end of the call, if you’d like to move forward with a consultation we can go ahead and schedule that! The cost is $200 (additional travel cost may apply for suburbs of LA) and we love to hit the ground running, so we usually come out within a week or so.

The Consultation

Your consultation lasts for up to an hour and allows you to show us everything you want us to see about your space! The number one rule is…don’t clean up before we come! It’s not helpful in the long run if you hide your clutter from us. We PROMISE we aren’t judging you, and the more we can see about how you live your daily life, the better we are able to help.

We also love to see as much of your home or office as you feel comfortable showing us. Sometimes clients want to start with a single space - like a garage or a kitchen - and that’s great! But, seeing connecting spaces is useful for us to create systems that are holistic and thoughtful. Here’s an example - let’s say you hire us to organize your garage, and we end up finding some serving dishes in a cabinet in the garage. It would be helpful if we could then suggest to look at the other serving dishes in the house and make a decision about whether they should all live together in one space, or if it makes sense to place some in the garage and some in the house. Our goal is to ultimately create solutions for you that are all-encompassing and will serve you for years to come. We don’t just simply organize an isolated space. We think about how all of the elements of your home or office connect together.

The consultation is also a time for us to ask a lot of questions about functionality in your home. Our organizing process is solution-based. We don’t just implement the exact same systems for everyone, but instead create custom organization tailored to you. We like to get to the root of whatever your organization problems are. For example, we often hear “We keep overbuying food because we can’t see what we have,” or “We’re constantly running late because we don’t have a good system for getting the kids out the door in the morning.” So, we want to see how you’re actually living and get to know you and your specific habits and traits.

The Space Camp team takes detailed notes and pictures for internal use, and if time permits, we’ll grab some measurements that will help us shop for products in the future. And don’t worry, this might sound scary but it’s actually really fun and cathartic, kind of like a therapy session for your home.

The Proposal

Once we leave the consult, we compile our notes and photos and put together an in-depth proposal for you. This includes specific goals, and an estimate of hours we’ll need to spend prepping, shopping, and executing the work at your space. It also includes a product retainer range and sometimes inspiration photos or links to solutions we’ve created in the past.

Our pricing is hourly, but we bid jobs in a way where we know we will deliver stellar results at or under the approved budget (as long as the scope of work doesn’t change). We know that this is different than what other organizers may do, but we think it’s the most transparent way of working together and the best way for you to be able to decide if moving forward with the project is in your budget.

Here’s an example of a proposal we submitted lately:

If you have any notes or adjustments on the proposal we are happy to make work with you, and then once we’re in agreement, you submit a 50% deposit. We accept credit cards, ACH, wire transfers, Zelle and checks. We’ll get you scheduled and get the team booked on our end.

Space Camp loves to arrive with plenty of products to start working with and “shopping” from so we are as efficient as possible. If there are any questions about preferences (glass vs. plastic, what colors you like, etc.) we will make sure to ask those ahead of time so we arrive prepared. We often bring options too so that you can see and feel something in person and decide if you like it in your space!

Your Project Days

We’ll send you a reminder email the day before the project starts with any essential information (team member names, contact information, etc.). We usually work full days, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, unless you need us to shift that in either direction.

The Space Camp team has been fully prepped ahead of time with all of the essential information for your project. We try to make sure that at least one person who has been to your house is on the team to make sure things start smoothly and there’s a familiarity with your space. We also make sure to arrive with a kit fully of supplies and hit the ground running. Depending on the project we may have questions for you right away, but if we don’t, we’ll be very good about communicating when we need you to be available. We are happy to do all of the heavy lifting and sorting for you, and to just bring you in to answer questions about what to keep and what to part with. Of course, we also love feedback on placement, labeling, etc. as well.

Your team is comprised of the best organizers in LA (truly) and the team size is chosen based on the size and complexity of your project. Everyone on the team is a W-2 employee, and we carry the best liability insurance and workers comp insurance you can buy. Each team member has been personally trained by Julianna and has been chosen for their organizing skills, empathy, kindness and efficiency. We consistently get feedback that our team is truly incredible, and we take great pride in knowing that we feel 100% confident that everyone we send to your home is going to thoroughly impress you.

Project Wrap Up

As we begin to wrap up your project, we’ll make sure you are happy with the placement and functionality of all of the categories before we start labeling and completing the spaces. We are also happy to take all donations for you (unless they’re too big to fit in our cars, in which case we can help arrange for Habitat For Humanity or another similar donation resource to come pick up for you).

Space Camp takes care of returning all of the unused products and will include the final product amount and all receipts in your bill. We also love to give you and anyone else in your household who is interested (housekeepers, nannies, children) a walk-through of the spaces to make sure they know where everything goes and how to maintain the systems.

Then we’re done! Often we start with a space or two and come back a few weeks/months later to keep working in other spaces, but that’s totally up to you. We also offer maintenance plans for clients who want or need more regular help, so please inquire if you’re interested!

And that’s it! The Space Camp experience! if you have any questions at all about how the service works and our availability, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re excited to work together!
